Quarry Bank Mill & Styal Estates
As One of Britain's greatest industrial heritage sites - including complete working Georgian cotton mill - Quarry Bank Mill, set in surrounding Styal Estates, is one of the best preserved textile mills of the Industrial Revolution.
Visitors are free to experience demonstrations on how cotton was processed into cloth and see Europe’s most powerful working waterwheel in a setting that overflows with the atmosphere of the Industrial Revolution.
Take a tour of the Apprentice House, which houses the pauper children who worked in the mill. Visit the dramatic garden – the Greg family's scenic valley retreat adjoining the mill. Stroll to Styal village, built by the Greg family to house the mill workers, which still enjoys a thriving community, or take a walk through the woods along the river.
